Teeny Tiny baby socks

So just a quick update of the completed baby socks for my niece.  I'll post a pic of her in them when I get one. They are made out of Serenity Sock Yarn using the Snuggly Socks pattern from Robyn Chachula's Baby Blueprint Crochet book.

Taking a break from the shawl

So I needed a break from the shawl so decided to whip up some baby socks for my new niece. They are from Robin Chachula's Baby Blueprint Crochet.

Midsummer's night shawl

So my new niece Emma has arrived safe and sound.  The shawl I'm working on for her mom has just made it through the third repeat of the pattern.  So at least 3 more repeats of the pattern and then the edging, though given the height of my sister-in-law I may add a few more repeats to give her plenty of length.  What do you all think?

The shawl is growing!

So I decided to go with the Midsummer's Night shawl by Lisa Naskrent.  It.... Is.... Georgeous!!!  Perfect interplay of the colors in the Schaeffer Andrea yarn in Greenjeans.  The pattern is elegant and easy to memorize.  I highly recommend it if you want to crochet a shawl.  But tell me, what do you all think? 
Also, I whipped up my first crocheted toy.  A bunny that I felted, though I did make a mistake of felting him after I stuffed him.

Ripples of baby joy

So the Ripples of Joy baby blanket is coming along nicely. 

So I've been debating making the Midsummer's Night Shawl by Lisa Naskrent for my sister in law http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/midsummer-nights-shawl, It would be in Schaefer Andrea in Greenjeans.  Any thoughts?

Failing Shawls

So, I've been trying to make a shawl for my sister-in-law.  Not having much success with it.  I've attempted two different patterns that I'm not happy with.  The first was a tunisian crochet shawl that I was designing as I went, but I wasn't happy with how it was turning out.  It was just too plain.

The second was the Small Talk Shawl by Cheri McEwan http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/small-talk-shawl .  It is a beautiful shawl, I actually made it larger by adding two extra panels, but it is just too lacy for what I'm wanting in this particular shawl, plus I'm using lace weight instead of fingering.  I do plan on making it at another time though because the pattern is gorgeous.

The yarn is beautiful, its Schaeffer Yarns, Andrea in greenjeans.  So I'm holding off on doing a rip out for a few days to stew over changing the pattern and in the meanwhile I'm whipping out a baby blanket for my soon to arrive niece Emma.  I'm using Rebecca Leigh's Ripples of Joy Pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ripples-of-joy .  For this I'm using Sublime's Bamboo & Pearls dk in oyster, lilac, and green.  It should be pretty.  Will post pictures later.

Growing Mariposa Shawl

So the tunisian crochet shawl I'm working on is growing.  It has a mock faroese neckline to lay on the shoulders better.  Personally I'd like it a little deeper, but we'll see how it looks once it's blocked.  I love the yarn color though. Such a delicate interplay of colors.  I think it will fit the recipient perfectly.

Welcome to Hooks, Yarn, 'n Life

So this is the kick-off of my new blog.  The main target is all about crochet and yarn, but as we all know hobbies can affect your whole life so we'll touch on that stuff too.  I'll be posting patterns and helpful hints as well as links to some of my favorite sites.  I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do.
